Rusape Granny Jailed for Burning Granddaughter's Privates

A 64-year-old grandmother from the Chief Makoni area in Rusape was sentenced to five years in prison by the Rusape Regional Magistrates Court yesterday for assaulting her 11-year-old granddaughter, a Grade 4 pupil.

The complainant had been living with the accused person since her parents' divorce in 2019.

During their time together, the accused person assaulted the complainant on multiple occasions.

According to the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe, on one occasion, the accused person burned the complainant's private parts with a burning log, accusing her of being promiscuous.

The complainant was also burned on the right palm with a burning plastic.

The matter came to light when the complainant reported the abuse and was referred for a medical examination.

The examiners noticed scars on her private parts, and upon inquiry, the complainant revealed her ordeal.
